Big Guns

Life is getting crazier by the day. I can hear you saying “minute”. So this morning as I sit and write, way too early in the morning to be up; I was reminded of a term I used to hear growing up, “Big guns”. I would hear people say, in often heated discussion, and no one could agree and , maybe confused on what decisions to make, “we’re calling in the big guns”. It seemed as though they were certain that if the “big guns”were brought in, there would be solutions. The strange thing was the Big Guns would often seem to be just one person! Like, “ let’s call ———-,” “She’ll know what to do”, or, “Let’s just wait till ——— gets here; he’ll handle this”. So I figured that person was like the smartest person, ever! When you called for the Big guns, the issues, however serious, would be settled, no questions asked, no more deliberations. So I though I’d look it up, and wow, this is really a thing. It refers to, One having preeminent status or power in a field. Used in a sentence, it would look like this: for a high-profile case like this, the law firm uses only “its big guns”. ( a team of the best of the best). Well, it’s time! We need the “Big Guns”. I hear a lot of sermons and I’m deeply blessed. I’m encouraged by songs, even those the Spirit gives me to write. But there’s something about the Word of God, directly from the Bible, that brings it on home. The Bible is the Big Gun, the closer, the finisher, the first and last word that seems to validate the encouraging devotional, and the songs that bless you to tears or lighten your heavy heart. Honestly, if we ever needed that, we sure do now. Who better to go to than the One who began all things, the One who has the greatest knowledge in every aspect of this universe So today, here are just a few messages from “ The Big gun”. Life is too often overwhelming for so many. Sometimes a season can be a very short period, but often it’s seemingly way too long. After reading these, I hope in your hearts that you are encouraged, blessed, and moved to hold on without fear. I’m bringing in “the Big Guns”! Isaiah 41:10: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Exodus 14:14 : The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” Hebrews 10:35 : Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. John 14:14 : If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. Psalm 121:1-8 : I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. ... Psalm 118:7 : The Lord is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. Psalm 54:4 : Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. Psalm 37:5 : Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 1 John 4:18 : There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. Psalm 34:17: When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. John 14:16 : And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever. Psalm 72:12 : For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper. Psalm 34:6 : This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. Psalm 40:17 : As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! John 14:26 : But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
